I just came across this today and was shocked to say the least. According to the DC Pro Sports Report, Washington Redskins defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth would like to be a Philadelphia Eagle.
The reasoning, according to NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora, is because of the Eagles new line coach, Jim Washburn.
“Haynesworth had his best seasons under Washburn in Tennessee, and the Eagles are expected to make finding a playmaking defensive lineman an offseason priority. A healthy, motivated Haynesworth would make RE Trent Cole that much more dangerous. This all assumes that Haynesworth is released rather than traded. The Skins will try to get something for him first.”
I understand that Haynesworth has very serious attitude problems, but he could be a great addition to the Eagles. He clearly is driven by his own desires, so if he is passionate about something then he is going to let it show. After an abysmal season in Washington, highlighted by his training camp drama and suspension at the end of the season, Haynesworth clearly needs to leave the organization.
The combination of reuniting with Washburn, working alongside Trent Cole, and getting revenge on the Redskins could be a perfect formula for the Eagles. The main issue is the contract that Haynesworth carries with him. Also, the Eagles are attempting to groom former first round draft pick Brandon Graham into a starter.
Do I think this is a realistic move? No. But you never know with Andy Reid. Case point: Terrell Owens and Michael Vick.
