What an addition this would be: Eagles positioned to add Asomugha
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Eagles are open to signing one of the best cornerbacks in the league, Nnamdi Asomugha. He is one of the hottest free agents on the market that will not come at a cheap cost.
Eagles owner Joe Banner said, “If we went or didn’t go in any particular direction it wouldn’t be because of the balance of the cap at that particular position.” In simpler terms, this means that the Eagles are not going to pay the All-Pro as much money as he is looking for considering they have invested so much in Asante Samuel.
A lot has to happen before serious talks being with Asomugha, the first being with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Until that is figured out, nothing can come of the rumors. Outside of that, there will definitely be other teams in the hunt for the cornerback. Most of them will be able to pay him the money he wants, so the Eagles are going to going to be forced to go one of two ways: invest the defense’s money on him or persuade Asomugha to play for a winning team and take less money. The Eagles already put franchise tags on Michael Vick and David Akers last week, so they are going to have to use the rest of their cap room wisely.
Hey, Cliff Lee took less money to play in the City of Brotherly Love. Who wouldn’t want to play for the Eagles?
