What more can honestly be said about Michael Leighton? The man turns 29 today, he’s been incredibly dominant since taking over the goaltending reigns from Brian Boucher, who was lost for the season with two sprained knees in the Boston series, and he’s currently riding over 160 minutes of shutout hockey. Oh, he’s also the main reason the Flyers have a 2-0 lead in their Eastern Conference Finals series with the Montreal Canadiens. So then, what more can be said?
Apparently, Sam Donnellon has something more in today’s Philadelphia Daily News, as the accolades for the Flyers netminder are only beginning to grow. In his piece, Donnellon talks about how Leighton has been such a life-saver for the Flyers and how the team has really rallied around him and found a cornerstone to an already incredibly solid defense. He even quotes Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette as saying that last night was “as good as I’ve seen him.”
Like I said, the praise keeps coming. And really, why should it stop? Hopefully Leights can ride it for as long and as far as he can.
