FLYERS: Watch Giroux Level Nielsen, Meszaros Win it in OT

Both videos courtesy of the great MrFlyerGuy

…I’m beginning to dislike Frans Nielsen more and more.

…Meszaros’ goal celebrations are, by far, amongst the best on the team.

FLYERS: Giroux Scores, Salvages a Point

..Points are points and while the Flyers didn’t deserve any last night, they worked hard the last half of the third period to even the score and wrap up a point. The OT loss stunk, but the reaction of Giroux on this one is priceless. I was going nuts after he tied it.

FLYERS: A Couple of Claudes from Hearst

LAROSE AND GIROUX SHARE A NAME AND A SMALL TOWN

…Pretty cool story from Seravalli. Much like Claude Larose was the past hero for the folks from Hearst, Claude Giroux has now taken up that title. Of course, Claude Larose won five Stanley Cups – all with the Montreal Canadiens. I guess that means we in Philly are due for five with Giroux.

FLYERS: CBC – Giroux is Midseason Fantasy Hockey MVP

FANTASY HOCKEY: WHO’S THE MID-SEASON MVP?

I believe a true fantasy sports guru knows how to get maximum value from players picked low in the draft. That’s why my fantasy MVP is Claude Giroux, who I predicted would have a break-out season way back in our second column of the season. But, truth be told, his stats make my bragging completely warranted. Check out the numbers. The Flyers forward was selected, on average, 146th in Yahoo! drafts, which is the 14th round. Despite being drafted so low, Giroux finds himself in 15th in league scoring. That’s a difference of 131 spots.

…Always nice to see a Flyer involved in MVP talks, whether it’s fantasy or not. Giroux has arguably been the Flyers’ REAL LIFE MVP through the first half or so of this season, and I’m anxious to see what else he has left in his arsenal through the final quarter of games or so.

FLYERS: Danny Briere and Claude Giroux are Awesome

HOME TEAM ADVANTAGE: FLYER ALL-STARS MAKE UNCONVENTIONAL FAMILY WORK

…Briere and Giroux are two key components for the Flyers not just for this season, but for the foreseeable future. Good thing Homer locked ‘em up. Hopefully they each can get on the board later this afternoon in the NHL All-Star Game.

FLYERS: NHL All-Star Game Assistant Captains Announced

ALTERNATE CAPTAINS NAMED FOR ALL-STAR GAME

…I am not a fan of Mike Green. He’s not a defenseman, and he came across as an arrogant prick on the HBO 24/7: Pens-Caps series. To be honest, I’m not all that excited for the actual game itself, just for the Fantasy Draft. Hopefully Danny Briere and Claude Giroux can end up on the same team. Then again, I’m just hoping both are saved the embarrassment of being picked last – although neither would deserve it.

FLYERS: Giroux on the Superstar Path

Last night’s contest against the Rangers affirmed what most people have been starting to realize since this season began October 7th in Pittsburgh. Claude Giroux is pretty damn good.

Giroux has been the Flyers' best player through the first month of the season

The Flyers’ leading scorer through their first 13 contests of the season, and undoubtedly their best player, Giroux has captivated the eyes of Flyers fans and is now starting to undertake the same feat with the rest of the hockey world as well. Through 13 games, Giroux has seven goals and seven assists (two of which came last night) to give him fourteen points on the board this season. He is also a +2. This season, of course, comes with some added motivation for Giroux, who’s contract is up at season’s end. However, take a deep breath, Flyers fans, Giroux is a restricted free agent, and the Flyers would never let him walk. If they do, they might as well pack Paul Holmgren’s things in the process.

The Flyers are a team that’s been so solid over the past few seasons offensively, and a large part of that has been the balance in their scoring. Jeff Carter put up 40 goals a couple seasons ago, and Mike Richards eclipsed 30 last season. This year, however, the Flyers’ offense looks as potent as ever, and there is a real possibility that if Giroux can stay healthy he may reach that coveted 50-goal plateau.

Mike G. Morreale of NHL.com is starting to take notice of the rising star from Hearst, Ontario, and he has more on Giroux, here: GIROUX ESTABLISHING HIMSELF AS AN ELITE PLAYER
