After starting off the scoring last night on a Danny Briere power play marker, the Flyers allowed five unanswered goals and fell to Pittsburgh by a final score of 5-1. Sergei Bobrovsky picked up his first NHL loss. I’m trying to block this game out of my memory, but, nonetheless, some quick hits for you:
- Jody Shelley absolutely kicked the crap out of Michael Rupp in what was a great scrap early in the first period.
- Bobrovsky stopped 27 of 31 shots for his first career NHL loss.
- Briere’s goal was his fourth of the season. He has yet to record an assist on the year.
- Eric Tangradi’s homecoming line: 10:42 TOI, 4 PIM, 0 shots, EVEN.
- Sidney Crosby continued his utter torment of the Flyers and their fans, scoring twice and adding an assist for three points on the day.
- 11 Flyers finished in the “minus” category.
- Nik Zherdev showed some aggression and signs that he’s actually picking up Laviolette’s system. Could be a guy to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
- Braydon Coburn led the Flyers in time on ice with 23:10.
- The Flyers finally broke through with a powerplay goal on Briere’s tally, but they need to be more consistent.
- Pittsburgh has won six straight games in Philadelphia.
- Who needs Marc-Andre Fleury? Brent Johnson has a sub-2.00 GAA this season and is 3-0-0.
- The Flyers are next in action on Thursday as they take on the Anaheim Ducks.
